attention: I have used a lot of sarcasm in this post, so maybe make it a fun task for yourself to try and find them? actually, you do you, I don’t want to give you more work.

I think it could be the fact that I come from a small-ish town and that growing up I had people close to me that were minding their business and taking their own time, that makes me feel that everyone around me is running.
Specially at work. Specially with Artificial Intelligence. Specially with *insert any other new shiny thing here*.
At one of my first “adult” jobs, I experienced burn out. I worked long hours, I felt I had to prove myself. Besides, everyone else around me was also hustling. I had to enter the game to feel validated and considered, even.
Fast forward to today, I am experiencing more negative emotions when it comes to work and career. We are bombarded with ads for courses, new tools you need to learn, BETTER tools that will save you so much time and now you can do… ahnn… more work?! yay! (nah, ty).
As someone who likes to exercise, I once asked somebody what they did for their workouts, and they told me lately they did not have time, but when they did, (years ago!), it was nice to hit the gym because they could reply to emails between sets. I am no physical instructor or anything, but I don’t think that’s why you are supposed to go to the gym.
- Everything is here to save us time: so we can deliver things we barely put any thought into.
- We got so many things to make us go faster: so that we are eventually trapped in jumping from task to task.
- It’s so easy today to learn new things: in the most shallow way possible.
hey, if you do it the right way, you don’t even need to absorb anything, you just copy and paste.
I don’t like where things are pointing to. I wonder if there is any way to escape this, or if eventually I will have to accept it because it’s the only way to feel seen. I just want to do meaningful things and enjoy my time as a person who has other things to do besides running to my next task.
Who decided that “fast paced environment” was the best thing a workplace can offer?
